Khôra | 2015 -2020

Khôra is a series that inaugurates my perspective on immigration and brings together photoperformance and fictional documentary. During this period of research, I still observed the immigrant experience from the outside looking in; later, this perspective shifts as I myself become an immigrant.

The series was produced in Barcelona, in Belgrade (Serbia), and in Bom Jardim, on the outskirts of Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil. It is influenced by the writings and cinematic perspectives of Pier Paolo Pasolini, with particular attention to his text “The Void of Power in Italy,” originally published in Corriere della Sera on November 14, 1974.  The masks used, which form the persona I embody—“Judith”—allude to the multiculturalism that shapes immigrant communities around the world. This series had a video artwork awarded at the 69th Salão de Abril – Fortaleza, Brazil, in 2018. A set of five photographs was selected with an acquisition prize from the Fortaleza Department of Culture in 2019.
